Danville Police unveil new patch

(Danville) — The city of Danville has a new official look.  And now, so does the city’s Police Department.

The patch you see on officers and on their patrol cars will soon match the new seal the city adopted last month.  Chief Chris Wiles says the new patch will be visible soon on all their uniforms, vehicles and more.

Since the old city seal was such an integral part of their old patch, Wiles says they had to update.  But they wanted to keep some of the current look. “We wanted to keep the shape of our patch, which we feel is unique. We also wanted to keep the red border,” Wiles said.

They managed to keep the color scheme in the new patch. Wiles says they meshed the old elements around the new seal to create a sharp-looking patch.

And with the new patch in place, now begins the process of putting it on all of their uniforms and their entire fleet of vehicles. In addition to the patch, the rewrapped vehicles will include a new font. “We’ll start transitioning our current vehicles.  We won’t replace the vehicles, obviously, just the patch,” Wiles said.  “Its a pretty straightforward upgrade.”

And Wiles says a new effort will boost visibility.  Danville City Council recently approved the purchase of 15 take-home vehicles for officers who live in the city. “They’ll be able to drive those vehicles home and park them and that will mean greater visibiliity,” Wiles said.  “From a recruitment and retention standpoint, having a take-home vehicle is a good incentive.”

The new city seal replaces the old one that dated back to 1957.
