Danville ABC store to close

(Danville) — The River District’s only ABC store will close next week.

The Virginia ABC Board of Directors has voted to close store #154 on North Union Street.  ABC spokesperson Pat Kane cited “deferred maintenance at this rented location.” The store’s last day will be April 23, and the ABC Department’s lease ends May 31.

On the ABC Board of Director’s agenda for their most recent meeting, staffers indicated it would be too risky to keep the store open. They said the property owner has not responded to requests for roof replacement. They also claim the landlord hasn’t paid taxes and doesn’t cash rent checks.

The Danville GIS page lists the owner as Eugenia Wilson Collins of Charlotte-North Carolina. The 3,400 square foot building dates back to 1961.

Kane says their three existing stores in Danville have enough capacity to serve both retail and licensee customers in the Danville service area. Those other ABC stores are in the Riverside Shopping Center, the Nor-Dan Shopping Center and the Ballou Park Shopping Center.
