Make Danville Shine returns

(Danville) — Next week is more than just the start of May.  It’s also the start of the 12th annual Make Danville Shine campaign.

That is a month-long effort to encourage folks to look at maintenance, upkeep and beautification of their property—and to help neighbors who may not be able to do so.

During the month, the city will waive fees for appliance pickups, tire disposal, and oversized piles of yard waste and large bulk debris. That does not include tree stumps or any debris generated by contractors.

You can put oversized piles of yard waste and large bulk debris at curbside for collection. The city asks you separate yard waste from the large bulk debris. Loose leaves and grass clippings must be bagged. Pickup will occur on the regular scheduled weekday.

You can also schedule an appointment for crews to pick up large appliances and heavy debris like bricks, rocks, cinder blocks and dirt. Heavy debris from contractors will not be collected.

The fee for tire disposal will be waived for only four tires per household. All household trash and small debris should be inside an approved cart. No car parts and hazardous materials such as liquids, paints and fuel can be included.

The annual Make Danville Shine Expo will be held on Saturday, May 4th at the Community Market.
