Caswell murder-suicide happened during sleepover

(Anderson, S.C.) — A weekend murder-suicide in Caswell County happened during a sleepover at a home where at least ten people were inside.

According to a Go Fund Me page set up to benefit the victims’ family, 37-year old Danielle Hines and her 15-year old daughter, who was a student at Bartlett Yancey High School, were shot and killed Saturday evening at their home on Cherry Grove Road in the Anderson Community.

Two of Hines’ other children were also shot, a 17-year old boy and a ten-year old girl, but they’re expected to make a full recovery. There were four other minors in the home who were not hurt.

Hines was a Caswell County Correctional Center officer who was hired a little over three years ago. Investigators say the alleged gunman, 37-year old Anthony Lamont Siler, drove from the scene into Alamance County.

Deputies stopped his car on Rauhut Street and ordered him to get out of the car. Deputies said Siler then shot himself inside the car.  He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Investigators do not believe the incident was random, but there’s been no public speculation on a motive.

The sponsor of the Go Fund Me Page is Hines’ mother.  She says Siler fathered Hines’ youngest child, who is four.

The Caswell County School system activated their crisis team. They pulled together guidance counselors and staff to help students at the schools two of the students attended.
