(Danville) — Danville’s first public splash pad is now open for fun!
Mayor Alonzo Jones led a ribbon-cutting for the 3rd Avenue Splash Pad, next to the fire station off of North Main Street. “This is more than just a new facility. It is a testament to our commitment to enhance the quality of life for our residents,” Jones said. “Its a place where these beautiful children can play and have fun while their families gather and friends meet.”
Danville Parks and Recreation Director Bill Sgrina tells River City TV the pad will be be open between Memorial Day and Labor Day from ten-to-six. And on weekends from ten-to-eight. “This is a neighborhood-sized pad, meaning it’s designed to hold 35-to-45 people at a time,” Sgrina said. “The water will run for about 10-to-15 minutes before it needs to be restarted.
There is no admission fee for the splash pad. Meantime a second splash pad at Doyle J-Thomas Park will open next month. “It will be a couple more weeks before we get that one finished up,” Sgrina said. “After that we have a contract out for one at Ballou Park.”
The pad at the former Green Street Park will also be neighborhood-sized. The one at Ballou Park will be bigger.
There’s more big news on the horizon. The newly-refurbished Westmoreland Park will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the end of June. The new Riverfront Park should be open before the end of this year.
