(Blairs) — Local volunteers rescued a woman who was trapped in a collapsed deck.
Sandra Blair was potting flowers on the deck of her home on Carson Jones Road, near R-and-L Smith last Wednesday evening. Her husband John was inside and heard an odd noise.
He went to the deck and saw Sandra, still sitting in her chair, but trapped in the middle of a collapsed deck. The deck was about 12 feet from the ground with a concrete patio underneath.
John called 911. Blairs Fire and Rescue was there in minutes. Volunteers shored up the deck to prevent it from collapsing any more. A crew member was lowered from the roof and put Sandra in a rescue harness. She was secured to an aerial ladder truck and raised from the deck using a rope system from a high attachment.
She suffered just a bruise on each hand.
