(Danville) — A man arrested this week in North Carolina after a Tuesday night shooting death in Danville was already implicated in another fatal shooting two years ago at the same apartment complex.
Police got a call of shots fired late Tuesday at Woodside Village off of Piney Forest Road. They found 24-year old Tasean Farmer of Danville in an apartment suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to SOVAH Health and later died.
Hours later, authorities in North Carolina arrested 32-year old Richard Lee Wilson of Danville. He’s charged with second degree murder and three weapons counts.
According to public documents, Wilson was a suspect in a July 2022 shooting death in the Woodside Village parking lot. 23-year-old Darick Lamont Richardson was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He died the next day at SOVAH Health.
Wilson was indicted by a Danville grand jury for first-degree murder. He was set to go to trial last August. But the Commonwealth decided not to proceed after a key witness in the case died two weeks before the trial.
“The Commonwealth was forced to end the previous prosecution because of the death of a necessary witness,” said Danville Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Newman. “That prosecution can be resumed if sufficient new evidence is discovered. That case remains open.”
Wilson is set to be extradited back to Danville to face murder charges in the most recent shooting. “The 2022 case will have no bearing on the more recent charges,” said Newman.
