Teens charged following chase, river search

(Danville) — Three teenagers are in custody after a wet pre-dawn police chase.

Just before five o-clock Wednesday morning Danville Police were called to Hermitage Drive in the Cedarbrook area on a report of multiple people breaking into vehicles. Officers saw three people jump out and run away from a running vehicle. That vehicle was later found crashed and unoccupied a few blocks away on Setliff Street. The owner later reported that the vehicle had been stolen from her house on Holbrook Street.

Officers searched the area for nearly an hour.  Just before 6:30am, they saw three males matching the suspects’ descriptions walking on Memorial Drive near the Robertson Bridge.

When the officer stopped, the teens ran down the bank and jumped into the river, leaving the water on the north side. Two were detained there, but the third was missing.

As a precaution, the Danville Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team and the Danville Life Saving Crew’s drone team were called in to search the river. The teen was found a short time later walking on Trade Street.

No names are being released and the investigation continues.
