(Chatham) — Pittsylvania County is now officially in the market for a new full-time administrator. The county formally posted the opening Monday afternoon.
The position opened up two months ago when former Administrator Stuart Turille suddenly resigned at the end of a Board of Supervisors meeting. He had been on the job less than a year. His resignation came hours after Supervisors met in a closed session to discuss the Administrator’s “Conduct Annual Performance Review.”
Turille replaced David Smitherman who was fired by Supervisors in January, 2022. The County spent 14 months without a full-time Administrator.
Weeks after stepping down, Turille was hired as the new City Manager of Southport, North Carolina.
The Board last month named County Treasurer Vince Shorter as Interim County Administrator through the rest of the calendar year. According to Monday’s job posting, the county will accept applications through mid-August. The job’s salary is not mentioned in the posting.
The County Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the county government. They also manage and supervise all departments, agencies and County offices.
