(Richmond) — Local unemployment rates are ticking upward.
The June report from the Virginia Employment Commission shows Danville with a 4.9% jobless rate. That’s up slightly from May, but up a half-percent from the same month a year ago.
Danville’s rate is seventh-highest in Virginia.
Pittsylvania County still has the lowest rate in the region at 3.3 percent. That’s up slightly from the prior month and the prior year. It’s the county’s third-lowest-ever June rate. The Virginia Employment Commission’s records go back to 1976.
Halifax County is back over four-percent. Henry County’s June rate was 3.7%—a slight increase over the previous month and year. Martinsville reported a 4.8%jobless rate for June. That’s 8th-highest in Virginia.
