Man shot by Danville Police indicted

(Danville) — A Danville man who was shot by city police in a standoff earlier this year has been indicted by a grand jury.

It happened back in January in the parking lot at Westwood Middle School.  It was after school hours, and the school was not in session that day.  Police got a call about a suspicious man. He was a former employee of a business nearby on Riverside Drive, and that he was possibly armed.

For 25 minutes, officers tried to negotiate with 24-year old Nicholas Graham Beddoo. He said he was armed and suicidal. Police say Beddoo pulled a gun from his waistband. Officers told him to drop the weapon. He fired the gun away from officers, then turned and pointed it at them. Officers then fired their weapons, hitting Beddoo.  He was treated at SOVAH Health Danville.

He was later charged by state police with two counts of assault and battery on a law enforcement officer and one count of discharging a firearm on school property. Beddoo’s trial is set for November 19th in Danville Circuit Court.
