Data center builders seek Special Use Permit

(Chatham) — Developers proposing the biggest economic development project in Pittsylvania County’s history are ready to take the next step.

Back in July, the county’s Board of Supervisors approved a rezoning to help create the 58 East Data Campus on over 900 acres on the south side of Route 58, just east of the Danville city limits. Now, Anchorstone is asking the county for a Special Use Permit.

The 58 East Data Campus is a $4-to-5 billion investment and will create up to 500 high-wage jobs. Once fully built out, the IDA says the data center will generate between 120-and-200 million dollars a year in direct tax revenue for Pittsylvania County.

Anchorstone reps have met with Community Development, Public Works, Public Safety, the Department of Transportation and Danville Utilities to discuss possible impacts on infrastructure and neighboring properties.

The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission will make a recommendation on the permit when they meet next week. The Board of Zoning Appeals will have the final say at their November meeting.
