City, Museum agree to 15-year lease

(Danville) — The City has renewed their partnership with the Danville Museum of Fine Arts and History.

Danville City Council Tuesday approved a new 15-year lease for the Sutherlin Mansion, the former fire station in the rear of the property, and a house at 126 Sutherlin Avenue.

Museum Executive Director Sonia Ingram says they operated for years under the terms and conditions of a series of Council Resolutions. “We are excited to move forward and make the museum relevant for everyone in the community and to become the cultural heart of Danville,” Ingram told Council.

In 1983, the City entered into a 40-year lease with the Museum. That lease expired last year—they have been operating on a month-to-month basis since then while negotiating a new lease.
