Second tornado confirmed in Pittsylvania County

(Keeling) — Turns out last week’s tornado in Dry Fork wasn’t the only twister that touched down in Pittsylvania County.

The National Weather Service Thursday confirmed a second tornado hit the Keeling area Friday afternoon, a couple of hours after the one in Dry Fork.

Assessors say this was an EF-1 tornado with winds of 90-95 mph. It was only on the ground for less than a thousand yards near the intersection of Dodson Road and Slatesville Road.

Several trees were knocked down by the storm, but no structures were damaged. No one was hurt.

The Dry Fork storm was an EF-2 tornado that damaged more than thirty structures and injured one person. It had winds of 118 miles per hour.
