(Danville) — Danville’s newest employer will be led by Danville’s most successful race car driver.
UK-based RBW announced Wednesday that Peyton Sellers will serve as their first Director of U.S. Operations. RBW, the UK’s only maker of hand-built electric classic sports cars, is investing $8 million to open a facility at Cane Creek Centre, creating 144 new jobs.
The local factory will make RBW EV Roadsters and GT models for the U.S. market—along with the new Spirit line that was launched just a couple of months ago. Spirit EV is a fully compliant EV design, testing, and production company. It allows businesses to outsource any part of their EV project or the entire process, offering expertise from initial development to production. Spirit EV’s engineering team, “treats each project as a unique, custom piece of art, thanks to the specialized level of customization required for electrification,” according to a press release.
Sellers is a two-time NASCAR national late model champion. Earlier this year he clinched his record seventh track championship at South Boston Speedway. He is also a local business owner and a long-time custom car builder.
“Over the past several years there has been a growing trend surrounding customers preferring their vehicles have EV systems in place of gasoline powered engines, which positions RBW EV Cars and Spirit EV in a unique position to capitalize on this market demand.” said Sellers. “I’m truly excited to be joining two family-run, trendsetting EV brands that will undoubtedly be a catalyst for further economic and manufacturing growth in southern Virginia.”
