City eyes state grants for transportation improvements

(Danville) — Danville Public Works officials want to submit three project funding requests to the Virginia Department of Transportation for three separate programs.

Under the state’s Highway Safety Improvement Program, the city is looking at a project to make pedestrian safety improvements on Nor Dan Drive at Walmart Neighborhood Market and on North Main Street at Franklin Turnpike.

They’re also applying with the State of Good Repair Program to conduct maintenance resurfacing on Franklin Turnpike and North Main.

As part of VDot’s State of Good Repair Program for Locally Owned Bridges, staffers are targeting some maintenance work on the bridge on London Bridge Drive over Pumpkin Creek.

The state will award these bids next summer.
