God’s Pit Crew requests tax exemption on properties

(Danville) — A local group that’s helped thousands of people over the past quarter-century is asking for a little help from Danville City Council.

God’s Pit Crew has applied for tax-exempt status for three parcels they own adjacent to their headquarters on North Main Street. That includes two corner lots on North Main Street and Parkland Drive that are used for volunteer and staff parking and fleet vehicle parking.  The third parcel on Brentwood Drive has been remodeled for offices for staff and is also a truck repair shop for service of their fleet.

God’s Pit Crew is a non-profit, disaster response group founded 25 years ago by Randy Johnson. They’ve offered help from coast-to-coast, helping people recover from natural disasters.

Their main headquarters on North Main Street, the former Health-Tex facility, was granted tax-exempt status by City Council in 2010.

Over the past month alone, they’ve sent over 40 tractor-trailer loads of product to various states and communities affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, and tragic flash flooding in New Mexico.
