(Blairs) — Two pedestrians were killed in separate accidents over the weekend in Pittsylvania County.
Virginia State Police say the first happened Saturday night on Lawless Creek Road about a half mile south of Route 29 in Blairs. Troopers say a 2001 Ford Expedition was traveling north on Lawless Creek when it hit a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.
33-year old Maurice Antwon Briggs of Chatham was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he died on Sunday. The driver of the Ford was not hurt.
No charges are pending, but the crash remains under investigation.
The second fatality happened Sunday afternoon on Route 29 in Blairs, just south of Spring Garden Road, near the Danville Expressway.
Troopers say a southbound 2024 Honda CRV hit a pedestrian who was standing in the roadway. The pedestrian was then hit by a 2021 Subaru. 79-year old Carlos Manuel Vientos of Danville died at the scene.
No one else was hurt. No one was charged. That crash also remains under investigation.
