(Danville) — Specialty packaging manufacturer EPL America is investing $37.4 million to expand its existing facility in the City of Danville, creating 24 new jobs. The announcement was made today by Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin.
EPL America, a subsidiary of global leader EPL Group, will use the investment to upgrade its current 200,000-square-foot facility and acquire new machinery. This expansion will allow the company to expand its operations in the beauty and cosmetics market, particularly focusing on sustainable packaging solutions like laminate tubes that can replace traditional plastic products.
Governor Youngkin praised the decision, highlighting Virginia’s commitment to advanced materials manufacturing and its role as a reliable business partner for global companies. He commended EPL’s long-standing presence in the Commonwealth and their continued investment in the skilled Virginia workforce.
“EPL America’s decision to expand in Danville is a testament to Virginia’s strong business environment and our commitment to supporting advanced manufacturing,” said Governor Youngkin. “This project will create good-paying jobs and further strengthen the Commonwealth’s economy.”
The project received support from various stakeholders across the state. Secretary of Commerce and Trade Caren Merrick emphasized Virginia’s advantages in attracting companies like EPL, citing its strategic location, robust infrastructure, and talented workforce.
EPL America President, Mauro Catopodis, expressed gratitude for the support from Governor Youngkin and the state. He highlighted the company’s long-term commitment to Danville and the Commonwealth, emphasizing the expansion’s role in strengthening their economic impact on the community.
“This expansion will allow us to create even more value for Danville and Virginia,” said Catopodis. “We are thankful for the state’s support and look forward to working together to build a successful future.”
Local leaders also welcomed the news, with Danville Mayor Alonzo Jones applauding EPL America’s continued investment. He highlighted the expansion’s positive impact on the community, creating new jobs and solidifying Danville’s position as a business-friendly location.
Similar sentiments were echoed by T. Neal Morris, Chairman of the Danville Industrial Development Authority, and Linda Green, Executive Director of the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance. Both praised EPL America’s contribution to Danville’s thriving manufacturing sector and their commitment to innovation and sustainability.
State legislators, Senator Tammy Mulchi and Delegate Danny Marshall, also commended EPL America’s decision to expand in Danville. They applauded the company’s commitment to the region and highlighted the importance of job creation for the community.
EPL America, a subsidiary of EPL Group, is a global leader in specialty packaging solutions. Founded in India in 1984, the company has partnered with major consumer goods manufacturers to develop innovative and eco-friendly packaging solutions. With 21 factories across five continents, EPL America established its U.S. operations in Danville in 2002.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) played a key role in securing the project for Virginia, working alongside the City of Danville and the Southern Virginia Regional Alliance. Governor Youngkin allocated a $90,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to support the project, with additional training assistance provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
