(Chatham) — A handful of Pittsylvania County schools will begin to get a facelift this summer.
Superintendent Doctor Mark Jones gave the county school board an update this week. “Kentuck Elementary School classroom additions will begin, the Southside Elementary School HVAC project will begin and the Union Hall Elementary School HVAC project will begin,” Jones said.
Also, some of the student safety measures identified in a recent study will get underway in a matter of weeks. “We’re putting security vestibules in our ten elementary schools and four middle schools,” Jones said. “Those projects will begin this summer and will likely last into the fall.”
Funding for these projects comes from a one-cent increase in the local sales tax approved two years ago by county voters in a referendum. This will pay for around $50 million in projects dealing with school safety and developing more innovative learning environments.
