(Richmond, Va.) — Local unemployment rates are holding steady in the most recent survey.
The April report from the Virginia Employment Commission shows Danville with a 4.1% jobless rate. That’s down three-tenths of a percent from March, but its up slightly from the same month a year ago.
On the down side, the Danville rate is third-highest in Virginia, training only Petersburg and Emporia. On the upside, it’s the second-lowest April rate in modern history, trailing only last year’s April rate.
Pittsylvania County still has the lowest rate in the region at 2.9%. It’s a slight increase from a month ago and a year ago.
Halifax County’s new rate is 3.3%. That’s exactly where it was a year ago.
Henry County’s April rate was three percent. Martinsville reported a four percent jobless rate. While that’s fourth-highest in Virginia, it’s down from a month ago and a year ago.
