(Danville) — The Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber this weekend gave a local school their highest honor.
The annual Pinnacle Award for large businesses went to Danville Community College. DCC is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, overseen by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia.
DCC formed in 1968 from the merger of the Danville Division of Virginia Polytechnic Institute with an existing community college.
They have over three-thousand students studying General Education, Cosmetology, Welding, Precision Machining, Science and Nursing. According to a study released earlier this year, DCC has an annual economic impact of 118 million dollars and support nearly 1,900 jobs. They employ 239 directly.
