(Axton, Va.) — A Martinsville man is in custody after a Saturday afternoon shooting in Pittsylvania County sent three people to the hospital.
Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Captain Gerald Ford says they got a 911 call just before quarter to three Saturday afternoon. The caller said several people had been shot at a home on Sandy River Road in Axton, right on the Henry County line.
Deputies found three adults suffering from gunshot wounds. They were triaged at the scene and flown to local hospitals for treatment.
A short time later, Henry County deputies arrested the suspect, 31-year old Telvin Oshea Hairston of Martinsville.
Hairston is charged with three counts of malicious wounding and multiple weapons counts. He’s being held without bond in the Pittsylvania County Jail.
Captain Ford says one of the shooting victims is in critical but stable condition. The other two are listed as stable. Ford says the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute.
According to court records, Hariston was convicted in an April 2016 shooting near the offices of the Martinsville Bulletin. He fired a shotgun at a man during an argument. The other man jumped out of the way and only his shirt was hit. Hairston pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree murder. A judge handed down 33 years, suspending all but eight.
