(Chase City, Va.) — Some local power customers are going to get a small break on their bills.
Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative is lowering their rate for the second time this year. Since the beginning of the year, Mecklenburg’s residential rates have dropped by $3.51 per month for customers using 1,000 kilowatt hours. That adds up to a yearly savings of just over 42 dollars.
The Old Dominion Electric Cooperative Board of Directors, the wholesale power provider for Mecklenburg Electric, approved the lower rate at their most recent meeting. They cited lower fuel costs needed to generate electricity.
Mecklenburg is headquartered in Chase City. with district offices in Gretna, Emporia, Chase City and Bracey. They serve over 66-hundred customers in Pittsylvania County, making them the county’s second-largest power provider behind Danville Utilities.
