(Chatham) — Pittsylvania County leaders are extending tax breaks to more people.
The Board of Supervisors this week approved an increase the qualifying income for Tax Exemptions for the Elderly. That was $25,000. It’s now $35,000. The plan also boosts the maximum allowable income from $60,000 to $70,000. It also increases the maximum exemption from $450 to $600.
County Finance Director Kim Van Der Hyde says her office will handle getting the word out. “This is something that will take effect January first of 2025. We will make sure that we give sufficient notice to all of our citizens in the next round of bills,” Van Der Hyde told Supervisors. “We plan on having fliers placed in those mailers so that everyone is aware of the program.”
Earlier this year, Danville City Council approved a plan to raise the qualifying income for THEIR elderly tax relief to $40,000.
