(Danville) — A Danville Circuit Court jury needed only a few minutes to return a guilty verdict Friday morning against a murder suspect.
The panel was seated Thursday morning in the trial of Martique LaQuon Holland. They deliberated just 16 minutes Friday morning before returning with a guilty verdict.
“We are satisfied with verdict and are glad that this has brought some closure to victim’s family,” said Danville Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael J. Newman. “The defendant was held accountable for his actions. This kind of violence can’t be tolerated in Danville and we are glad the jury agreed and convicted Mr. Holland.”
Holland was convicted of first-degree murder and weapons counts in a shooting death last May at Woodside Village apartments off of Piney Forest Road. Police found 37-year old Marcus Hairston dead at the scene. Another victim was taken to the hospital. Hours later, a third victim arrived at SOVAH suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
A 15-year old suspect in the shooting death was ruled not competent to stand trial.
Holland pleaded not guilty earlier this year. He faces up to life in prison when he’s sentenced August 28.
