(Danville) — A Danville man who held up his former employer last year will serve over six-and-a-half years in a federal prison.
It happened last June at the Market Square Food Lion just north of the Danville city limits. A clerk said a customer put two bags of Cheetos on the counter, and gave them a dollar bill and some change. When the cashier opened the register, the customer pulled out a gun and said, “back up.”
The cashier put his hands up and backed away while the robber grabbed the cash drawer and ran out with over 12-hundred dollars. He drove off in a silver Chevy Impala.
Federal Marshals arrested 30-year old Christopher Harris of Pleasant View Apartments in Danville. Harris pleaded guilty earlier this year to one count of robbery under the Hobbs Act.
This is the second local robbery to be prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods. Earlier this year, prosecutors used the Hobbs Act to convict 42-year old Isaac Jerome Graham for an armed robbery last year at a Danville convenience store.
