(Richmond) — There was some positive local fallout from Tropical Storm Debby.
The rains from the storm have prompted the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality to lift drought advisories for 76 counties and cities in Virginia. That includes Danville and Pittsylvania County.
According to the National Weather Service the Danville-Pittsylvania County area got 4-5 inches of rain over a three-day period from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby.
The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors has already applied for drought disaster status. That would make county farmers eligible for low interest loans to cover drought-related losses.
Two weeks ago, practically the entire state was listed as at least “abnormally dry.” A drought warning is still in effect for the Shenandoah region and a drought watch continues in the Big Sandy region.
