(Chatham) — A local group wants to turn a handsome house in Pittsylvania County into a group residential treatment facility for addicts.
Epic Management Group is asking the County Planning Commission for a Special Use Permit to operate on a five-and-a-half acre lot on the west side of Route 29, just south of Tightsqueeze. There are three buildings on the property, including a large three-story, five-bedroom five-bath house.
According to permit documents, the facility would have 24-hour on-site supervision with a minimum staffing ratio of one professional per eight residents. They are proposing a 16-bed facility. They would also have to meet state and federal health and treatment guidelines.
Epic is owned by Cory Williams and has offices on Deer Run Road in Danville. There will be no actual treatment done at the home. Residents will be taken to Deer Run Road for treatment services.
Developers note that there is very little residential development in the immediate vicinity, and building a new jail nearby will enhance the region’s security.
The Pittsylvania County Planning Commission will vote on the idea this week. They’ll make a recommendation to the Pittsylvania County Board of Zoning Appeals.
