(Danville) — City and County leaders are buying a big chunk of land near the Berry Hill Mega Park to help with access and long-term success for future clients.
The Danville-Pittsylvania County Regional Industrial Facility Monday voted to spend nearly one-point-nine million dollars to buy nearly 290 acres owned by the Hairston family.
It’s the only piece of property south of Berry Hill Road and north of the Dan River that is not already part of the Mega Park footprint.
Pittsylvania County Economic Development Director Matt Rowe says owning the property will help RIFA enhance the Route 311 corridor which serves the Megasite. It will also give RIFA more control over what will open adjacent to the park. “The Authority wishes to work with relevant stakeholders to enhance the property given its regional importance,” Rowe said.
Rowe says they will look at concepts and plans for the property long-term during the coming months.
The purchase price is $1,895,000 for approximately 290-acres. That comes out to roughly $6,500 per acre. “Should RIFA find adverse issues on the property then it has the right to terminate the purchase,” Rowe added.
RIFA has a three-month due diligence period that can be further extended by two additional months if needed.
Berry Hill has finished just out of the running for some large projects in just the past few years. More than $200 million has been spent over 15 years to make the Southern Virginia Mega Site at Berry Hill the largest industrial park in the Southeast.
