(Hurt) — Developers may be in line for some grant dollars to pay for a rehabilitation project in the far northern end of Pittsylvania County.
Danville joined Pittsylvania County and the town of Hurt to form the Staunton River Regional Industrial Facility Authority in 2018. Last year, the town of Hurt used ARPA money to buy the Staunton Plaza Shopping Center for $165,000.
RIFA is asking the Virginia Tobacco Commission for a $700,000 grant to help with the makeover. The Commission’s Southern Virginia Committee will vote next week on a staff proposal that they approved a little over 610-thousand dollars.
The plaza was built in the seventies but has been mostly empty for well over a decade.
