(Chatham) — Pittsylvania County is getting some help in their first effort to provide childcare.
Starting in January, Kentuck Elementary School will host the County’s first-ever After-School Childcare. The County Parks and Recreation will staff and administer the program. They’ll launch the program with three staffers serving 36 students.
A recent study showed Pittsylvania County has a high demand for childcare, but limited options.
The Danville Regional Foundation has awarded the county a 25-thousand dollar grant to get the After-School Program off the ground. The Foundation was formed with the proceeds from the sale of Danville Regional Medical Center to Lifepoint 20 years ago.
County staffers hope Kentuck will be just the beginning. If it is a success, they plan to spread the service to other county school buildings down the road.
