(Gretna) — Gretna Elementary School was closed Tuesday after a fifth case of vandalism in the past few weeks.
Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Deputies got a call early Tuesday about a disturbance at the school in the wee hours. They found multiple windows smashed and several Chromebooks destroyed. Someone had set a fire to pamphlets on an outside bookcase. Witnesses say the fire caused little damage.
One juvenile had already been arrested in connection with three prior incidents of vandalism. A second teen was arrested Tuesday morning in connection with all five incidents. Because of their ages, no names are being released.
Gretna Police Chief John Hewitt says they are still looking for a third suspect.
Gretna Elementary School students were given breakfast Tuesday and then sent home so investigators could collect clues on the campus.
Hewitt estimates the vandalism has resulted in around 70-thousand dollars in damages.
