(Penhook) — A Gretna volunteer lost his home and his two pets in a Sunday house fire.
Gretna Fire and Rescue reports volunteer paramedic Bill Van Gils was on duty Sunday when a call went out for a fire that had broken out at his home on Armstrong Road in the Penhook community, near the Franklin County line.
The blaze destroyed his house and killed his dog and cat. His dog Jayne was also the firehouse dog at Gretna Fire and Rescue.
A GoFundMe has been set up to accept monetary donations for Van Gils. You can also drop off donations at the Gretna Fire and Rescue station at 122 East Gretna Road in Gretna. Van Gils says he has plenty of clothes.
