(Danville) — A developer will get to turn another former tobacco warehouse into apartments.
Garrett Shiflett is asking for a waiver of maximum density restrictions in the River District. Their plans for 553 Lynn Street call for 21 high end multi-family units.
Representative Austin Bunn says that would include 18 two-bedroom and 3 single-bedroom rentals. “We’re really looking forward to this project. This is one of the last buildings in that area yet to be developed,” Bunn told the Danville Planning Commission. “And we’ve got some pretty nice plans for it.”
Earlier this year, they asked the River District Design Commission for a Certificate of Appropriateness to replace the current windows to bring in more natural lighting. Bunn says this will be their second active project. “We’re currently doing another project on Craghead Street. We should have this one done by mid-to-late next year.”
And Bunn says they don’t expect parking to be an issue. “There’s street parking directly behind it and there’s a city-owned lot in between it and the next property on Lynn Street.”
The Danville Planning Commission Monday voted unanimously to make a positive recommendation to Danville City Council.
