(Danville) — Danville leaders are weighing a plan to change the code to get more larger buildings renovated.
Danville City Council is being asked to add multifamily and commercial buildings to the list of structures that can qualify for partial real estate tax exemptions.
The city has used exemptions as an incentive for developers to help create safe, energy efficient, and affordable housing for all income levels. A 2022 Danville Housing Strategies Report recommended the city encourage repairs to existing homes to increase the availability of housing in the City.
Staffers say more needs to be done. They’re asking the city expand the real estate tax abatement program for hotel, commercial, and industrial property.
Danville City Council will vote on the proposal Tuesday.
