(Danville) — Sovah Health Danville is showing off a year’s worth of work to revamp their emergency department.
They held an open house with the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce Wednesday to let locals explore their brand-new ER department. Hospital President Steve Matherly says they first began planning the renovation about 15 years ago.
Sovah began the 20 million dollar renovation of their emergency department a little over a year ago. They moved their Emergency Department into a temporary home on the second floor while the renovations were underway.
The old emergency department had thirty beds, six of which were for mental health patients. The renovations add about 7,000 square feet of space to their Emergency Department.
It also includes dedicated behavior health rooms. Hospital officials hope the expanded Emergency Department will cut into the frequency of diversions, when Sovah is forced to send ambulances elsewhere. The renovated section for ambulances to drop off patients how has five additional parking spots.
Another new feature is a centrally-located clinical workstation. A Sovah press release says this will, “make it faster and easier for clinicians to move through the space and provide a clear view of all patient areas at all times.”
The Emergency Department will officially open on January fifth.
