(Danville) — Developers are eyeing another River District building for apartments.
Millsan Properties is asking the city of Danville for a Special Use Permit to waive density restrictions for a three-story building at the corner of Bridge and Wilson Streets. It is the former home of Richmond Cedar Works.
The property at 400 Bridge Street is on a 0.17 acre lot. It is across the street from the Acree Public Parking Garage.
The maximum density for a development in the Tobacco Warehouse district is 24 units per net acre for multifamily residential. Millsan wants to create a multifamily complex with 25 one and two-bedroom apartments.
The Danville Planning Commission will make a recommendation when they meet next week. City Council will have the last word when they field the recommendation in June. Staffers are recommending approval, noting in a report, “Adaptive reuse of existing structures in the River District for multifamily dwelling units is common and compatible with the 2030 Comprehensive Plan.”
