(Chatham) — There’s a new weapon in the fight against litter in Pittsylvania County. The Board of Supervisors has appointed the inaugural set of members to the newly-created Beautification Committee.
A previous committee was established in 2012, with each Supervisor appointing a member. They worked with schools, churches, businesses, and non-profits to raise awareness about litter cleanup and prevention.
Chatham-Blairs Supervisor Ken Bowman led the effort to reinstate the Committee. He will serve as the Board’s liaison to the committee.
The new members include Wendy Shields from the Chatham-Blairs District, Phyllis Barker from the Dan River District, Sherry Moss will represent the Callands-Gretna District, while the Westover District appointee is Katherine Blair. Rounding out the panel are Carolyn Herndon from the Tunstall District and Evelyn Davis from the Banister District.
The seventh member, from the Staunton River District, will be appointed later. Each will serve a one-year term.
