(Danville) — City and County planners are backing an effort to explore regional bus service.
The city of Danville put out bids earlier this year for companies to conduct a feasibility study to looking at the establishment of commuter bus service for Danville through a third party provider.
They will study the costs and benefits of commuter bus service linking Danville with Lynchburg, Martinsville, and Greensboro. The study will also explore service for riders in Chatham and Gretna as part of the Lynchburg route—and Reidsville for the Greensboro route.
The study weigh the pros and cons of potential stops at the Mega Site at Berry Hill, Caesars Virginia Casino and Resort and Danville Transit’s Transfer Center on Floyd Street.
The study will be completed by the end of the year, with a grant application sent to the state by February first. Because of the timeline, any regional bus service would not begin until 2026.
The Danville-Pittsylvania County Regional Industrial Facility Authority Monday formally endorsed the study.
