(Danville) — Danville’s City Manager made some last-minute adjustments to a series of fee changes that City Council rejected last month. It was enough for Council to approve them Tuesday.
Larking knocked 90% off of his original proposal for Short-Term Rental Inspections. “I’m recommending short-term rental fees be reduced from the original proposal of $500, which was knocked down to $250, all the way down to $50 a year, and $25 for a half-year,” Larking told City Council.
This is a brand new fee for the city. It was implemented after the city adopted new regulations to deal with the growing number of air bnbs and other short-term rentals. “It covers our administrative costs for advertising and various other things,” Larking explained. “When we have fees we try to set it up so that the ones using the services are the ones paying for the services, and its not supported by the general taxing authority of the city meaning its not being subsidized by tax dollars.”
Council approved the idea. They also signed off on Planning Application fees going up from 360-to-400 dollars—applications to the Board of Zoning Appeals to increasing from 206-to-250 dollars, and for various increases in building inspection fees.
There will also be a one-dollar increase in monthly sanitation fees to help with the rising cost of equipment needed to provide that service. The new schedule also adjusts the cemetery fee for the first time in 12 years. Without the change, Larking said the cemetery fund would have run out of money next year.
