(Danville) — A Florida developer wants to bring a large assisted living and retirement community to Danville.
Joe Cubas is asking the city to rezone a seven-and-a-half acre wooded lot off of Piney Forest Road, not far from Nor-Dan Shopping Center, from Attached Residential to Multi-family Residential. Cubas wants to build an elderly and assisted living facility with 174 units. He will also need a Special Use Permit.
The land is next to single-family housing on Nelson Avenue, and is just south of the Woodside Village apartment complex.
Cubas says this would give Danville more housing options. He also notes that Danville’s greying population will create more housing demand for senior citizens in the coming years.
Earlier this year, Cubas got the green light for a large single-family housing development on a hundred acres between the Danville Expressway and Jenny Lane. Two large plots south of the Arey Estates subdivision were rezoned from Threshold Residential to Suburban Residential. That will allow for a development with 303 houses. Cubas says those homes will be in the $300,000-350,000 range.
The Danville Planning Commission will meet next week and make a recommendation on Cubas’ proposal for an assisted living community. Danville City Council will vote on it in August.
