(Gretna) — A local group has taken on a new role while helping Western North Carolina recover from Hurricane Helene.
Gretna-based Campers Care provides travel trailers to people who have lost their homes or became displaced during disasters. With the shortage of travel trailers in the region, Campers Care has transitioned to building “CABINS 4 CHRIST”.
The Cabins are being made in Chatham at A&A Mechanical on My Twinn Lane with help from CRB Electric. They plan to build 75 Cabins 4 Christ that will be shipped to Western North Carolina this week.
They’re working directly with Buncombe County School System and Sheriff’s Office to assign the cabins. The first 75 will go to 26 High school students who are without a home, and 49 school staffers, teachers, and employees.
The cabins will be solar powered, with composting toilets, a full size bed and fully stocked for the cold weather.
