(Richmond) — Local jobless rates are down from a month ago, but mostly on-par with last year.
The September report released Wednesday by the Virginia Employment Commission shows a 4.7% rate in Danville. That’s much lower than it was a month ago, but the same as a year ago. Danville’s rate is tied for seventh-highest in Virginia.
Pittsylvania County’s 3.2% rate is the lowest in the region. That’s down from August, but close to where it was in September-2023.
Halifax County’s rate was 4.2%…down sharply from August. Henry County’s 3.7% rate was down a half-percent from the prior month.
Martinsville’s September jobless rate was 5.6%. That’s the fourth-highest in the state and up nearly a percent from last year.
