(Martinsville) — A Southside Virginia college is mapping out a strategic plan for their future after some rocky recent years.
The New College Institute Executive Committee Board released a reorganization plan last week. It includes a new organizational structure the school hopes will streamline operations while ensuring accountability.
NCI opened in 2006 to give local students another option for a four-year degree. An audit by the State Inspector General and a series of articles from the Martinsville Bulletin in 2023 showed NCI had come up short in key areas.
Last year’s draft biennial budget from Governor Glenn Youngkin included four-point-seven million dollars in year one for NCI—but zero in year two. Southside State Senator Bill Stanley and Henry County Delegate Eric Phillips were able to get year two funding included in the final budget.
