(Danville) — Activity was up sharply in March at Caesars’ temporary casino in Danville.
The Virginia Lottery Monday released their monthly report on casino revenues at Virginia’s three casino. In addition to the temporary Caesars Virginia Casino and Resort in Danville, the permanent Rivers Casino Portsmouth and the Temporary Hard Rock Casino in Bristol are open.
The Lottery reports over 21 million dollars in revenue at Caesars during the month of March. That’s up nearly two-and-a-half million dollars from February and it’s over four million dollars above January.
All of the increases came from their 804 slot machines at the big tent on West Main Street. Greater activity at the slots was more than enough to offset a small drop in revenues from their 33 table games.
Caesars has now taken in over 180 million dollars since they opened last May.
March’s taxes on Caesars totaled nearly three-point-eight million dollars. Over one-and-a-quarter million of that goes directly to the City of Danville. Most of the rest goes to the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The City of Danville has now collected over eleven million dollars in gaming-tax revenue from the casino. The city also gets reimbursement as part of a citing agreement.
City Council is using higher-than-expected casino revenues from the current fiscal year to pay for a splash pad at Ballou Park, and a project to move electric lines near the casino underground.
The permanent Caesars Virginia Casino & Resort is set to open later this year.
