(Danville) — The local hospital says their footprint in Danville is growing.
SOVAH has released their annual community impact survey , focusing on the 2023 calendar year. SOVAH Danville CEO Steve Heatherly says they added 11 employed providers last year, along with a total of 67 independent providers across both campuses in Danville and Martinsville. This included providers in general surgery, orthopedics, pulmonary care, cardiology and family medicine.
“With the support of Lifepoint Health and community partners like you, we continue to advance our mission and create places where people choose to come for healthcare, physicians and providers want to practice and employees want to work,” Heatherly said in the report.
SOVAH also reports over ten million dollars in capital improvements at their Danville-area facilities during 2023. “This year’s investments included a C-Arm Imagery OEC, the Omnicell control system and the opening of Sovah Family Medicine – East Clinic,” Heatherly noted in the report.
SOVAH is now up to 1,030 employees in Danville. That adds up to annual wages of over 87 million dollars. “We strive to create an environment where talent is ecognized, job satisfaction is valued and our employees can effectively use their skills to provide high-quality care and services,” said Heatherly.
Also in 2023, SOVAH donated the equivalent of over 24 million dollars in free services for needy patients. “Delivering care to all of our neighbors, regardless of their ability to pay, is foundational to our mission and our commitment to our community,” said Heatherly.
The annual report also shows tax payments of nearly 21 million dollars.
The report comes as SOVAH continues work on a 20 million dollar renovation of their emergency department. That began in November.
The old emergency department had thirty beds, six of which were for mental health patients. The renovations will add about 7,000 square feet of space to their Emergency Department. It will include dedicated behavior health rooms.
“We feel privileged to be part of this community, and we take seriously the role we play in providing compassionate, accessible care to patients and their families,” said Heatherly.
