(Richmond) — The latest jobless report shows a mixed bag for Southside Virginia.
The August report from the Virginia Employment Commission shows a 5.4% rate in Danville. That’s nearly a percent lower than it was a month ago, but up slightly from a year ago.
Danville had the highest rate in Virginia in July. The August rate is ninth-highest.
Pittsylvania County’s 3.7% rate is down from July, but up a half-percent from August-2023. Halifax County’s rate inched up to 4.9%. Henry County’s 4.2% rate was up only modestly from the prior month.
Martinsville’s August jobless rate was 5.9%. That’s the fifth-highest in the state and up nearly a percent from last year.
