(Chatham) — Developers looking at Pittsylvania County for a power plant and data center campus are expected to submit a new, pared-down proposal next week.
Balico CEO Irfan Ali tells Data Center Dynamics the new proposal will be for a 300-megawatt gas-fired power plant, along with eight or nine data centers. Their original proposal called for a three-and-a-half gigawatt power plant and up to 84 data centers on 22-hundred acres in the Chalk Level area.
The power plant would be connected to the nearby Mountain Valley Pipeline. It terminates at the TransCo Compressor Station in Pittsylvania County and went into service this past summer.
Balico plans to submit its new application November 19. Last week they withdrew their original request after an outpouring of opposition from nearby residents, and assurances from county Supervisors that there was no support for the proposal.
The Planning Commission accepted the withdrawal without penalty, meaning Balico would not have to wait another year before submitting a new proposal.
