(Chatham) — Staffers are finalizing a Parks and Recreation Master Plan for Pittsylvania County.
Consultant BerryDunn’s proposal includes a five-year focus on operations, a 10-year focus on capital needs and a 20-year strategic vision.
In the short term they’re recommending a parks upgrade plan in two years, a neighborhood park in the northeastern corner of the county in three years, and an outdoor pickleball court in four years. By year five, they want another public park in the southwestern end of the county. They want an outdoor sports complex by 2030, an outdoor splash pad by 2031, and a disk golf course and a skate park within a decade.
BerryDunn is also recommending expanding the department from four to eight workers over the next ten years, including one dedicated to senior recreation. They’ll present their report to the Board of Supervisors at a work session next week.
